How AST Helps Protect Your Home and Family.
The System
How does a security system work? It's simple. Various types of sensors are placed at vulnerable points around your home. Some are like switches, such as those most often used
on selected doors and windows. Other sense motion or even breaking glass.
Smoke detectors, of course, sense smoke from fires. When a sensor detects a problem, it signals the control panel which is like
the "Brain." If your burglary system is turned on or "armed", the control panel determines the nature of the problem and then
sends signals to the facility that monitors your system, a
Central Station.
It may also cause a siren to sound at your premises. Your fire and emergency protection always remain on so that your system
can react to fires and personal emergencies at any time.
Operating Your System
If you can use a telephone, you can use your keypad to operate your system. You simply enter your security code and press any
of the clearly marked function buttons. Your keypad will always show you the status of your system in plain English. You don't
have to decipher any blinking lights or beeps. The lighted display and buttons make it easy to operate, even in the dark.
Beyond the Basics
Don't be fooled by the simplicity of your security system. If also offers the most advanced features available in electronic security.
When you're at home, you need to be protected against a break-in, but you still need to move about freely inside. You can activate only the perimeter sensors on doors and windows, leaving interior sensors off so that you can move around without causing an alarm. You can even turn off certain sensors while leaving the rest of your system on. For instance, you may want to leave a window open to enjoy the breeze.
At times you may want to let a maid, friend or trusted neighbor into your home while you're away. You can create a temporary security code and then delete it at any time. The system can also let you know if anyone comes or goes through a protected door or window while your system is off.
Special buttons let you summon police, fire or emergency help. You can also summon help with a wireless transmitter that you can carry or keep by your bed.
Suppose you are accosted as you enter your home and told to turn off your alarm system. You can turn off the system while sending a silent signal for help simply by changing the way you enter your security code.
